World Bee Day event in Puka, Albania

On 20th May, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Tirana, Mrs. Milena Radenković, attended the event organized by the Beekeepers' Association from Puka (northern Albania). It was the first time that a celebration of the World Bee Day happened in Puka and it was held under the slogan "There is no life without bees". Its aim was to promote and raise awareness of the vital role of bees and beekeeping and to present a novelty in Albania - apitherapy.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Puka, Mr. Gjon Gjonaj, Director of the State Veterinary and Plant Protection Agency of the Republic of Albania, Mrs. Tana Kika, Albanian beekeepers, representatives of honey processing companies and experts in the field, some representatives of the Northern Macedonian Beekeepers Association, Ulcinj Beekeepers Association and Beekeepers from Kosovo.

The event was chaired by Mr. Viktor Maluta, President of the Albanian Beekeepers' Association, who briefly presented World Bee Day, Slovenia's role in declaring it and the activities that have been taking place in Albania for the last three years since the proclamation of the World Bee Day. Entrepreneur Mr. Abdyl Arifaj presented apitherapy as a novelty in the Albanian market and underlined that the idea to establish this activity comes from Slovenia, which he described as a role-model.
